How much do leaders get paid? This is probably the question I've been asked most since I first became involved with Scouting. The simple answer is nothing, zero, nil and claims for expenses are very, very rare also. How much will it cost?Subscriptions are payable weekly and are currently £2.50 for the first child, £1.50 for the second and all other children in the same family. Of this £1.00 goes directly to the Section funds and the remainder towards Membership fee and running costs. Membership fee is what the group has to pay to Scout Headquarters each year and mainly covers insurance. For families on benefit these subscription costs may be claimed via the DSS. Please contact us for further details. |
What does the scout executive committee do?The scout executive committee is made up of a mixture of leaders and parents who meet once every month to plan activities for the children and organise group events. They oversee the allocation of group funds, maintain all group equipment and organise fundraising events. An AGM is held every year to which all parents are invited to attend during which the officers are elected and the financial audit presented. The exec would welcome any parent wishing to join at any time. How can I become a leader? To become a qualified leader you will need to regularly help out with one of the scout groups (beaver/cub/scouts) over a period of years and undertake a series of training courses throughout this time. |
You would normally start by helping out on a regular basis and build up experience and responsibility over time. If you are seriously considering becoming a leader - or have been a leader with another group then please contact us. Will my child fit in?Children are welcome to come to a few meetings before they decide whether Scouting is for them. This will give them time to make friends and find out what we do. They do not need to purchase a uniform (minimum of the jumper/top only) until they are ready to be invested which is normally after four or five weeks. This means you will not have to outlay any money only to find after a couple of weeks they are no longer interested. |
